Environmental
At NEBCO we take a very serious view on our responsibility to minimise the impact that our business activities have on the environment. To achieve this objective NEBCO has selected where possible suppliers who have gained accreditation to ISO14001:2004, the internationally recognised standard for Environmental Management Systems (EMS). Systems are maintained by Integrated Management Teams who are both qualified and experienced in environmental management systems. Environmental considerations are embedded in all activities and processes driving a company-wide strategy.
Management teams lead by effectively communicating their policy, targets, and objectives to employees and distributors. Staff training tackles environmental issues providing a platform for staff to feedback on system improvements. Continuous improvement is part of their overall business strategy. To achieve this goal clear and precise objectives are set that are monitored from their commencement through to their conclusion.
Examples of key objectives are to:
- Identify opportunities for energy saving.
- Improve on-site storage of chemicals.
- Ensure waste storage prevents pollution.
- Ensure compliance with permits, consents, and other requirements.
- Instigate new technology.
They measure performance through internal and external auditors and evolve their operations accordingly. From the straightforward recycling of paper to the management of plant emissions and discharge consents strictly adheres to an all-encompassing environmental policy. Our suppliers have a holistic approach to manage the environmental impact of the supply chain with evidence of compliance to REACH and RoHS as a prerequisite. All suppliers have a proactive and accountable approach in analysing and reviewing their production systems, providing comprehensive reports of all upstream and downstream energy inputs and various environmental emissions. The analysis feeds into both theirs and our design processes and has led to the development of trademark designs that make maximum use of mechanical fixings such as bolts and clipping systems, minimising the use of permanent fixings such as welding to ensure the product can be dismantled to its pre-constructed state, transported and reused or recycled at end-of-life.
As legislation evolves and changes due to the government’s environmental commitments, our suppliers remain very much at the forefront of the manufacturing sector's ability to adapt and comply with the ever-demanding drive for environmentally friendly business activities. On an annual basis, their EMS is reviewed by Senior Management enabling them to fully appreciate their performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
